On Good Friday there is a funeral
procession that carries the symbols of the Passion
and Death of Christ; by the dim light of torches
that are situated along the route, the Battenti
accompany the dead Christ to the Sepulchre, followed
by the statue of Our Lady of Sorrows; the procession
passes in complete silence, broken only by the
lament of the Choir ( words and music by the musician
of Amalfi Antonio Tirabassi 1882-1947) that expresses
the torment of the Madonna….

Every year on the first Sunday of June the Historical
Regatta of the ancient Maritime Republics between
Amalfi, Pisa, Genoa and Venice is held ….
Historical regatta
Then come the celebrations of the Patron Saints,
every procession is accompanied by a great participation
both of citizens and tourists, the festivities
continue with traditional recipes, roundabouts
and stalls, and to finish the day a fantastic
firework display . Absolutely not to be missed:
the interesting naval procession of St Antonio
da Padova on the 13th of June, the solemn religious
festivities in honour of St. Andrew Apostle on
the 27th of June, and on the 22nd of July at Atrani
the festivity of St. Maria Magdalena, with a naval
procession and a spectacular firework display
on the sea…

Then comes the Amalfi Summer and a full calendar
of festivities and events, the only problem is
what to choose!….
