Amalfi stands along the valley of the river Canneto (or Chiarito as it was once called) held between Mount Aureo on the East and Mount Tabor on the West.

The town centre is shaped like an upside-down fan that measures 1,5km. in the narrowest part in the Valle dei Mulini ( about 2km. inland). This Valley is the urban part of the more extensive Valle delle Ferriere, the ancient “industrial area” of Amalfi, where the paper mills and Iron-works were situated, this ultimate giving its name to the whole area. The valley because of the peculiarity of its flora and fauna and its beauty is now a nature reserve and a place for a pleasant walk…

Outside the town centre in the western direction, parallel to the State road 163, is the ancient via Maestra dei Villaggi. Deep in the greenery of the terraces of lemons and olives for its entire length, about 4 km., it is the footpath that connects the five villages to the town centre of Amalfi…
On the seaward side also going towards the west is the enchanting coast with its interesting ravines and small beaches that lead to the marvellous Emerald Grotto…

Going to the East, after a few hundred metres we arrive at Atrani, it can be reached or by taking the SS.163 or the panoramic pathway via S.Maria delle Signore: which we will take…

Given the ampleness of the territory and to make the visit to the town and its immediate surroundings easier but at the same time complete, we will suggest some ideal routes and pleasant walks. The routes are countersigned with different colours that as they traverse the territory cover the monuments, landscape, history and culture….
